Casa Elisabeta Rizea

The architecture of this house is traditional and folk, representing a two-story peasant dwelling built on a river stone cellar. The roof is hipped with shingle roofing, and the predominant material used is spruce wood. However, the importance of this house goes beyond its architecture, as it evokes the memory of the armed anti-communist resistance in the southern slopes of the Făgăraș Mountains, reflected even in bullet holes found in its walls.

The core of the anti-communist resistance in the Făgăraș Mountains was established in Nucșoara, and it was in this house, in the presence of Colonel Gheorghe Arsenescu, the initiator and coordinator of the Haiducii Muscelului Group, that the partisans took a solemn oath, holding a cross in their left hand and a weapon in their right hand. They pledged to fight for “the salvation and liberation of the country from the clutches of the communist-bolshevik beasts and from the heavy yoke of the Russians.”

The house of Elisabeta Rizea stands as a significant symbol of the resistance against the oppressive communist regime and commemorates the sacrifices made by those who fought for the freedom and independence of their homeland.
