South of the Valeni Hermitage lies the commune of Suici, starting from the point called “La Stejar” (At the Oak). Here, there is the trunk of a centuries-old oak tree, whose existence dates back over 500 years.
Legend has it that under the shade of this oak tree, Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave) made a stopover on his way to Transylvania through Turnul Rosu (the Red Tower) during the campaign preceding the Battle of Selimber.
The legend also mentions that Mihai Viteazul, together with his captains, made a stopover under the shade of this oak tree while on his way to Transylvania during the campaign preceding the Battle of Selimber. One of his captains was named Theodosie Rudeanu, from whom the first village of the Suici commune, Rudeni, is believed to have taken its name.
Some documents suggest that Theodosie Rudeanu may have been the author of an Official Court Chronicle written in the Romanian language, and he was one of the most prominent officials of Mihai Viteazul. He appears in all the acts issued by the voivode, as well as those of Domnitor Radu Serban, whom the boyars of the country brought to Carstinești on the Topologului Valley after returning from Transylvania
